TEKsystems Telecom (Fiber) Construction Project Manager in Anchorage, Alaska

Position Summary:

  • The Telecommunications Construction Manager will work closely with the rest of the Company’s OSP division and report to the Sr. Manager Construction.

  • They will be responsible for leading multiple network line expansion construction projects, directing day-to-day construction fields operations and managing vendor relations while meeting deadlines on time and on budget.

  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of system design and city street maps and understand complex network architecture.

  • Proficiency in map reading, with the ability to determine if requested sites are serviceable with fiber and/or coax.

  • This individual must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and have critical problem-solving skills to make decisions quickly when needed.

Telecommunications Construction Manager critical responsibilities:

  • Ensure network line expansion plans are properly aligned to achieve the department’s goals and objectives.

  • Work with vendor managers/supervisors to provide management oversight for all phases of the construction project, including coordinating workers, material, and equipment, ensuring that construction milestones are performed in accordance with schedule and budget.

  • Direct the day-to-day construction field operations, providing necessary technical guidance and quality controls

  • Ensure Company tracking methods and systems are implemented to measure productivity levels and perform regular review of job cost and progress reports.

  • Fully understands the business, scope, and implications related to managing telecommunication construction operations.

  • Strong understanding of electronics and telephony equipment. Installation, modification and test, and turn-up procedures

  • Identifies various types of cable and wire to include coax, waveguide, data, and power cables understanding industry standard color code. Performs preventative and/or corrective maintenance, such as underground cable locates, outage response.

  • Perform site surveys for both coax and fiber plant.

  • Executes locates as well as fiber watch on plant that is considered critical fiber.

  • Performs routine service and maintenance and quality control surrounding pre and post drop burial job sites.

  • May manage, oversee, and provide technical guidance and to others.

  • Interface with various internal and external stakeholders on assigned construction projects.

  • Communicate with team members ensuring cohesion across various departments.

  • Ensure that team goals, protocols, and business relationships are consistent with the company's strategy.

  • Execute and deliver multiple fiber construction projects, focusing on aggressively expanding fiber network at an industry-leading pace.

  • Responsible for estimating network construction costs, budget adherence, and tracking expenses and able to report as required.

  • Develop and positively maintain short-term and long-term relationships to support Company goals.

  • Document, update and maintain robust and accurate plant records and as-builts as projects are completed.

  • Manage relationships with regional utilities and local and state governments.

  • Participate in ongoing educational and networking opportunities in order to maintain current knowledge of network operations, technology changes and matters as they relate to cost-effective FTTX deployment.

Qualifications of a strong candidate:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related discipline, or the equivalent education and /or experience.

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in related engineering or network construction in the areas of responsibility listed above.

  • Knowledge of CAD, GIS mapping software and other digital construction platforms required.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Knowledge in Construction standards, requirements, and OSP construction-related details (Aerial, Underground, Buried, Splicing, etc.)

  • Proficient knowledge in FTTX construction methods as well as fiber management and splicing standards.

  • Good understanding of telecom network topology and customer connectivity.

  • Hands-on experience on telecom networks including OSP and ISP elements.

  • Able to effectively oversee multiple priorities with a strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
