Alaska Village Electric Cooperative Maintenance Technician/Trainer in Anchorage, Alaska

Alaska Village Electric Cooperative is looking for a Plant Operator Trainer and Maintenance Technician. If you are reliable, dependable, knowledgeable, self-motivated, resourceful and like to travel and are adventurous enough to take on rural Alaska then you will be a great addition to the team of traveling technicians.

The Maintenance Technician/Trainer is a full-time position with overtime and paid hourly based on experience. The wage range starts at $27.94 and maxes out at $49.28.

Alaska Village Electric Cooperative is unlike any other utility in the world, come for the adventure, stay for the challenge and let us WOW you with our benefits.

Join a member-driven electric generation and distribution cooperative serving residents in 58 communities throughout rural Alaska with its headquarters in Anchorage, AK. Alaska Village Electric Cooperative owns and operates 46 small, isolated grids that rely on diesel, wind, and solar generation for prime power. AVEC serves the rural Alaska communities with 11,513 meters, 515 miles of distribution line.

The Cooperative offers an excellent benefit package to include an employer-paid pension plan, 401K with an employer match, generous leave starting at 14 hours per month, two different health insurance plans, vision, dental, short- and long-term disability, and life insurance. The Maintenance Technicians receive per diem while traveling in the field.

As a Plant Operator Trainer and Maintenance Technician you will organize, assist, direct and perform construction work on-site required to serve member villages with electrical energy through a diesel generation and distribution system. Your days will often never be the same and you will have the opportunity to do lots of different things. Primarily, you'll travel to AVEC Villages to train the Power Plant Operators on maintaining the power plant, on how to receive and transfer fuel, how to complete minor repairs, and on switch gear operation. As part of the traveling field staff, you are the ones that our Members see so there is much value to maintaining good relations with the member-owners and village councils and building their understanding and confidence in AVEC's value, mission and goals.

The Maintenance Technician position will be a part of the Operations team at AVEC. If you are self-motivated, responsible, and driven, this position allows you freedom in setting your hours and pace while out in the field. While traveling with AVEC, you will get to enjoy world class fishing and hunting during the hours that you aren't working and will get to see parts of Alaska that most Alaskans don't even get to see.

If you think you have what it takes to be a Maintenance Technician for AVEC, the next step is to complete our online application. Don't worry, the application is pretty easy, it simply asks for your resume and to answer some questions to help us get to know you and your experience better. We should warn you though, if you are selected to move further in our hiring process, you will be asked to complete a second stage of the application (this is the fun part where you are asked to provide the more detailed work and education history - yes we know the struggle). This is good news though because it will most likely earn you a chance to speak with our very experienced Operations Manager.
