Southwest Material Handling Inc Shop Technician in Anaheim, California
SUMMARY
This position requires knowledge of general material handling equipment. Technicians must be capable of trouble shooting and providing repairs. Good knowledge of parts and the ability to determine if part needs to be replaced or repaired. Ability to write clear job recommendations and descriptions as well as ensure all paperwork is completed and given to the shop lead in a timely manner.
Responsibilities:

Repair gasoline, LPG, electric or diesel-powered forklifts
Disassemble and overhaul engines, transmissions, clutches, and other assemblies
Make repairs as needed including replacing worn or broken parts, adjusting brakes, tightening body bolts, aligning wheels, etc.
Lubricate vehicles and perform other duties in connection with maintenance and operation of lift trucks as required
Includes manual labor such as heavy lifting and operating power equipment
Make supervisor aware of problems as they occur
Complete paperwork, as needed, to open work order / close work order
Keep work area clean
Practice safe work habits
Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Shop Job Responsibilities:
Used/Reconditioning
Analyze the current condition of the equipment to determine cost of repairs
Get lead man approval on repair needed as well as estimate of time to repair
Complete repair within the established time frame
New Customer Repairs
Are expected to perform any type of repair on any brand or type of equipment
Determine needed repairs and give repair quote to Parts Department for parts price quotes, then give to CSSR who will contact the customer for approval
When repair is approved by the customer, tech is expected to meet repair in time quoted
Rental Repairs
Check if unit is rental ready
Perform any maintenance or repair
Return lift to rental ready line Check Out
Check condition of truck against work order and confirm work was done and done properly
Qualifications
High school (or GED) graduate
Three to five years (material handling industry) mechanic experience
Own your own tools and toolbox preferred
Must have excellent driving record and be able to go in the field if necessary
Good attendance and punctuality a must
Ability to perform job within specified time guidelines
Must be reliable, report to work on time, follow directions and get along well with co-workers and management personnel
Expected to attend technical classes when offered
Appearance must be neat and professional
Physical Requirements
Must be able to repetitively stoop, bend, push, pull, squat, climb and kneel on a regular basis
Must be able to operate power machinery, use hand tools, us air compressor tools, band saw and department grinder, steam cleaner, and parts washer machines
Must be physically able to repetitively lift 50 pounds unaided (must ask for assistance if lifting over 50 pounds)
Must be physically able to operate / drive, a company van if necessary, to go to customer site
Must have the ability to use navigation system to reach customer or vendor location
