DescriptionDEPARTMENT: Corps POSITION TITLE: Program Aide (Youth Focus) STATUS: Part-Time, Non-Exempt (8 hrs) Compensation: $20.60 per hour GENERAL STATEMENT: The Salvation Army is a branch of the Christian Church, and the ultimate goal of all programs is the spiritual regeneration of all people. EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or equivalent required Minimum of 2 years of experience preferred in one or more of the following fields: Child development Youth Ministry Christian Education SCOPE OF POSITION: Provide a fun and safe place for the young children of the church to play, learn, and grow. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: This position requires that the employee be at least 21 years of age. Must complete all required Protecting the Mission Training. This is a ministry position, and employees must understand, practice, and teach Biblical Christian living. Detail-oriented and attention to detail Motivated Self-starter General knowledge of business protocols. Ability and willingness to keep information confidential. Provides physical, emotional, and intellectual stimulation and safety for the children. Be polite, friendly, and courteous to all children, parents, and volunteers. Knowledge of the age-appropriate needs of Children Must have a valid Washington State Driver's license and ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Records check and in-house driving test. Salvationists in good standing preferred SOFTWARE-RELATED SKILLS: Microsoft Word Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Publisher helpful Outlook is required. Computer Knowledge ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Abides by all Protecting The Mission policies of The Salvation Army, always. Willing to teach Salvation Army curriculum. Form a professional but loving relationship with each child in the program. Work with the corps officer to plan, teach, gather necessary supplies, and promote various programs at the corps during the week, Sundays and some Saturdays. Arrives on time and stays until children are secured with a responsible adult named on the child's registration. Communicates needs for supplies, snacks, etc. to the Corps Officer Engages children in organized activities, i.e., age-appropriate songs, stories, lessons, and crafts. Ensures the safety of all children. Help interview, train, and place program leaders as they apply. Adhere to all Protecting the Mission requirements and ensure volunteers and program participants adhere to Salvation Army Policies. Ensure monthly statistics are communicated clearly to the Corps Officer. Secure transportation or transport individuals for program-related trips. Lead and assist with all assigned aspects of corps holiday efforts. Other duties are assigned as needed. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist intermittently or continuously. Ability to grasp, push, and pull objects such as files and file cabinet drawers and reach overhead. Ability to operate the telephone. Ability to operate a desktop or laptop computer. Ability to lift to 25 lbs. (usually file boxes Ability to access and produce information from a computer. Ability to understand written information.
