Fixed Term Contract for 12 months

Location: Hamburg, Amsterdam, Vienna, or Warsaw

Language requirements: fluency in English and German

About the Role

In this role you will provide legal leadership and advice to key partners and their wider teams in relation to Germany, Poland, Switzerland, and Austria (“GASP”).

The role requires a high level of professionalism and integrity, with strong analytical, drafting and negotiating skills. In particular in the area of commercial contracts, consumer and marketing laws and regulations, competition law and data privacy.

We are looking for someone with a commercial pragmatic approach and ability to explain legal concepts in a clear and practical manner. Someone who can work autonomously and take initiative, with have excellent interpersonal, coaching and influencing skills. Ideally, you are able to flex your style to suit context and you are flexible in your approach to supporting different priorities and be confident to lead engaging presentations and training sessions to diverse audiences.

Top Accountabilities

The Market Counsel will support the achievement of the Northern European market growth strategy and Diageo’s Performance Ambition through providing creative, pragmatic and efficient legal support for long-term, sustainable success.

  • Guide on commercial issues.

  • Advise on competition law, data privacy, EU, UK and US Sanctions and other regulatory matters. Support on responding to investigations by local regulatory authorities in GASP.

  • Counsel on legal and reputational issues on consumer and customer marketing activities, and innovation launches across GASP, with a particular focus on governance and compliance risks.

  • Provide proactive leadership to address key business risks, manage issues to mitigate impact, support delivery of the critical Compliance agenda and embed practices which drive comprehensive performance to protect and maintain reputation.

  • Support the Brand Protection agenda

  • Work collaboratively and coordinate with specialist global legal function teams (IP, Antitrust, Business Integrity, Brand Protection, Company Secretarial and Corporate Security) for issues and initiatives relevant to GASP.

About You

  • Lawyer qualified and with relevant commercial legal practice experience gained in leading law firm or in-house.

  • Meaningful experience handling wide legal and compliance agenda, dealing effectively with external legal service providers.

  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of legal issues relevant to the commercial businesses.
