Job Description

You will autonomously cover your area of responsibility inspecting and ensuring compliance of contract work and ensuring proper facility function. This position serves as a lead worker and performs work overseeing the inspection of Rest Area contractors and managing the maintenance and daily operations. This position has overlapping responsibilities for the remaining system which would include thirty-eight rest areas, five welcome centers, fourteen parking only sites and fourteen weigh stations.

This position serves as a People Leader (lead worker) and oversees the activities of those it leads. It will assist the supervisor by instructing employees, answering questions, and helping to balance and check work. This position will also assist with training, make suggestions on performance, and serve as an example to the team it will lead.

Location: Western Iowa Region – primary coverage in Adair, Loveland, Underwood, Pacific Junction, Avoca, Percival, and Minden facilities.

Shift: Monday – Friday, 8 am- 430pm

Travel: Travel to assigned rest areas, parking-only areas, weigh scales, and other DOT facilities is essential. Overnight travel once a year is required for the water conference.

Duties:

  • Plans daily schedule and maintains flexibility to adjust to daily changing priorities.

  • Responds to and determines needed actions for after-hour emergency and maintenance situations on an on-call basis.

  • Manages daily operations and oversees property security and maintenance of facilities and equipment.

Special Requirements:

  • Poses and maintain a Driver’s License

  • Within one year from hire, the candidate will be required to have and maintain Wastewater Treatment 1, and Water Distribution 1 certifications.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Experience equal to three years of full-time work in the building and trades industry;

OR

employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes one year of full-time work as a Maintenance Repairer.
