Job Description:
The Dean’s Office for Academic Innovation and Student Success in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University is seeking a Program Specialist for Student Innovation Programs. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Academic Innovation, the Program Specialist will provide leadership, programming, and strategic vision for student innovation efforts across the college, including directing the CALS Pathways to Innovation and Leadership program.
Key responsibilities:
Develop research informed programming and initiatives, and support college wide efforts, that engage undergraduates in high impact practices related to NACE career ready competencies. Manage program budgets, awards and scholarships related to this work.
Develop and administer micro-credentials and digital badges related to this work.
Construct and administer program assessment and evaluation tools, including surveys and focus groups, and statistical data analysis.
Manage and mentor graduate and undergraduate students to support this work.
D evelop, lead and support college-wide innovation efforts, such as the annual Food Insecurity challenge and use of the SICTR and related programing, including Ignite and Excite. Represent the college on related committees.
The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences has a strong and vibrant tradition of student engagement in experiential learning and high-impact practices that provide students with the opportunity to foster new ideas, experiment, and develop leadership skills to become problem solvers in agriculture, the environment, and social and life sciences. These practices include undergraduate research, domestic and international study away programs, entrepreneurship, learning communities, judging competitions, and service learning.
The ideal candidate will be highly focused on student success, bringing exceptional skills in program development and management, problem-solving, initiative, leadership, and team building. They should have a strong understanding of high impact practices and micro-credentials, and their relationship to student retention and success trends. They should have experience with program evaluation using both qualitative and qualitative methods, data-driven decision-making, and proven abilities in program implementation.
Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential for effectively delivering and marketing programs, recruiting and mentoring students, and engaging with a diverse range of individuals. A high level of professionalism and the ability to work effectively with campus and college partners and stakeholders, including faculty, staff, donors, and alumni, is required. Due to the innovative nature of this work, publishing and presenting at academic conferences on this work is strongly encouraged.

The successful candidate is expected to develop and implement new ideas related to innovation and leadership, and explore new ways to engage and build community among students, staff and faculty in this work.
