Job Description:Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

The Department of Earth, Atmosphere, and Climate in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University seeks a Lecturer to teach one 4-credit course in hydrogeology for Spring 2025 semester, beginning 01/01/2025.

This position will be responsible for all aspects of the course instruction and management for Geology 411/511, Hydrogeology. Hydrogeology is a 4 credit course that presents the physical principles of groundwater flow, nature and origin of aquifers and confining units, well hydraulics, groundwater modeling, and contaminant transport. The lab emphasizes applied field and laboratory methods for hydrogeological investigations. The successful candidate will create effective instruction and delivery of course topics, provide timely return of student work, direct the tasks of the teaching assistant if assigned, and maintain a Canvas page for the course.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Geology, Earth Science, or closely related field

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated excellence in teaching hydrogeology at the college level

Department/Program & College Description:

The Department of Earth, Atmosphere, and Climate is staffed by 17 faculty and has an operating budget of about $2.4M. The Department has areas of strength in climate and paleoclimate, microscale and mesoscale meteorology, hydrology, solid-earth processes, Quaternary Geology, and geoscience education. Research facilities include state-of-the-art laboratory facilities in stable isotope geochemistry, analogue tectonic modeling, and biogeochemistry. Programs in geology, meteorology, and climate science serve a total of 170 undergraduate majors. About 30 M.S. and Ph.D. students are enrolled in the geology and meteorology graduate programs. Generous support for the Department is provided by an active group of alumni. The Geology Program runs a multi-use, newly renovated field station in northwest Wyoming with a 60-year tradition of providing immersive education for students from across the country.
