Job Description:Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Department of Apparel, Events, and Hospitality Management (AESHM) in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Iowa State University invites applications for a 9-month term faculty position at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor to teach courses in apparel and soft goods product development (including technical design and manufacturing), and global sourcing. The initial appointment length is one year. Renewal parameters are determined by performance and department needs. Start date is August 16, 2025.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Primary focus: Teach undergraduate lecture and studio courses related to apparel and soft goods product development and sourcing.
Secondary Focus: Potential to teach related courses in fashion communication, trend forecasting, and retail merchandising.
Support faculty and students in course development/projects involving product development and sourcing-related opportunities.
Work collaboratively with the fashion design and merchandising program to ensure course alignment with industry needs and student demand.
Serve as liaison between the fashion design and merchandising program and the apparel industry.
Participate in curriculum planning, serve on committees, and fulfill other responsibilities normally associated with an assistant teaching professor position.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree
At least one degree in apparel design and/or product development
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior teaching experience at the university/college level
Prior industry experience related to fashion or soft goods
Ability to teach creative and technical apparel design and soft goods manufacturing, Computer-aided apparel patternmaking, global sourcing for apparel and soft goods
Ability to teach and integrate fashion-related technology in courses, including 2D and 3D CAD patternmaking, garment fitting (live and virtual), Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator (including AI-generative features)

The Department of Apparel, Events, and Hospitality Management is one of five academic units in the College of Health and Human Sciences and offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees. Iowa State University’s apparel design and product development courses are offered through the Fashion Design and Merchandising Program.
