Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

The Department of Kinesiology in the College of Human Sciences at Iowa State University invites applications for a 9-month term faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor. Initial appointment length is one year for an Assistant Teaching Professor and three years for an Associate Teaching Professor. Renewal parameters are determined by performance and department need.

Successful candidates will be expected to teach up to 12-credit hours (or equivalent effort) per semester, which includes classroom instruction of department courses offered in Kinesiology and Health (Exercise Science option), and coordination and supervision of exercise clinic. The candidate is expected to engage in continuous professional and curriculum development at the undergraduate level, as well as engage in department and institutional service. Candidates should have strong communication skills, , and exhibit the potential for long-term leadership in supporting the mission of the department, college, and university.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

For Assistant Teaching Professor -

  • Masters or higher degree in Kinesiology or related field

  • Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience at collegiate level

For Associate Teaching Professor –

  • Masters or higher degree in Kinesiology or related field

  • Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience at collegiate level

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate degree in Kinesiology or related field

  • Kinesiology and/or Health-related teaching experience at collegiate level

  • Experience coordinating and supervising an outreach program

  • Additional years of teaching experience at collegiate level

Department/Program & College Description:

The Department of Kinesiology is one of five academic units in the College of Human Sciences and offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in kinesiology. The department has approximately 1100 undergraduate and 40 graduate students, making it one of the largest academic departments at Iowa State. Through our teaching, research, service, and outreach efforts, the Department of Kinesiology strives to promote health and wellbeing by creating and disseminating knowledge about physical activity and healthy living to improve the lives of citizens of Iowa, the United States, and the world. The expertise and interests of our nationally recognized faculty are diverse and reflect biomechanical, pedagogical, physiological, psychological, and sociocultural perspectives of physical activity, exercise, and health.
