Friona Industries Environmental, Health & Safety Manager - Amarillo, TX in Amarillo, Texas

The EHS Manager is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the health, safety and environmental compliance of the eight Feedyard facilities and corporate office. Establishes and promotes a safe, accident free, and healthy work environment, including the feedyard, vehicles, and equipment by performing the following duties.

Roles and Tasks

  • Develop and maintain current EAP’s for locations, formulate safety awareness campaigns.

  • Manage all safety programs and policies; ensure locations are in compliance.

  • Conduct site inspections to observe compliance with all federal, state and company policies.

  • Corrects working conditions, using knowledge of industrial processes, mechanics, psychology, and safety standards; develops loss control programs; and devises methods to evaluate safety programs

  • Educates, trains, and provides support to operations in the development and execution of consistent safety management programs. Perform safety audits, train on OSHA logs and oversee OSHA compliance.

  • Identify best practices and lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce workplace hazards, raise safety awareness, and improve safe work practices.

  • Inspect machinery and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards. 

  • Provide technical advice, coaching, guidance, and mentoring to employees on safety initiatives and necessary changes.

  • Escorts employees of all agencies conducting safety, fire, and physical security audits of the facility

  • Assesses new developments in the health and safety field that may have an application to the company’s operations

  • Promotes and encourages participation in safety, health, and maintenance programs

  • Assist supervisors in immediate investigation of all injury accidents and report findings to the Leadership Team.

  • Develop environmental documentation for each location.

  • Conduct internal and external business development activities for environmental compliance services

  • Monitor or track sustainability indicators, such as energy usage, natural resource usage, waste generation, and recycling.

  • Participate in/on industry committees and organizations on behalf of the company.

  • Manage and assist in the administration of the Worker’s Compensation Program.

  • Perform other duties or tasks as needed or assigned

  • Daily travel required; overnight up to 5% of time

    Profile / Professional Competencies

    Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in safety, environmental science or related field preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered.

    Specific Knowledge / Experience:

  • Ability or willingness to obtain certification as CSP (Certified Safety Professional)

  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations including (but not limited) to OSHA, PSM, EPA, RMP,

  • Must be self–motivated and disciplined requiring little to no direct supervision, ability to concurrently deal with multiple projects and meet deadlines
