Transportation Engineer I: Performs transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.Transportation Engineer II: Performs complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Transportation Engineer III: Performs advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, projectdevelopment and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.Essential Duties:The essential duties for the Transportation Engineer I include:Acts as consultant to staff engineers to coordinate construction operations.Analyzes and recommends approval for modifications to highway maintenance contracts.Analyzes schedule trends, determines risks and supports management in evaluating options for corrective action for routine projects.Meets with law enforcement agencies and/or city officials to discuss traffic problems and possible solutions.Responsible for the review of construction related to operations.Reviews change orders, supplemental agreements, memorandum agreements and extra work orders, reviews monthly and final estimates prior to submittal.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.The essential duties for the Transportation Engineer II include all the above and:Assists in developing and/or monitoring budgets.Oversees construction and audit records.Oversees maintenance of functional classification of highways and federal aid system map development.Analyzes and recommends approval for modifications to highway maintenance contracts.Assists in the development, preparation and letting of maintenance contracts for the district.Develops and/or reviews engineering related documents, correspondence, reports and remediation plans.Performs data collection, analyses, forecasts and plan development.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.The essential duties for the Transportation Engineer III include all the above and:Assists Project Managers to establish realistic and achievable schedule baselines for complex projects.Designs highly complex bridge projects and performs specialized design.Develops plans for the Project Managers related to resource assignments, schedules, scope, communication, quality, and procurement, while utilizing available resources and maintaining the agency's project objectives.Performs advanced and complex planning work such as plan review, calculations and transportation planning studies.Performs data collection, evaluations, analyses, studies, inspections, forecasts, assessments, and/or plan development.Assists Area Engineers with construction contract administration matters.Coordinates maintenance matters with Area Engineers.Coordinates with Area Engineers and reviews area office contract submissions.Interprets maintenance standards, rules, methods, procedures, ractices and policies.May serve as a lead worker and the related tasks.Meets with law enforcement agencies and/or city officials to discuss traffic problems and possible solutions.Performs and/or documents in-house research studies.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
