Group Summary

The Mechatronics, Mirrors and Lighting group specializes in automotive technologies that are driving the future of mobility. About the Role

Supports manufacturing through the resolution of issues and the implementation of new products into production. Performs process design functions, runs Design of Experiment (DOE) analyses, establishes resource requirements and material flow, and determines operating parameters all to optimize manufacturing cell efficiency. Independently monitors objectives and costs of assigned projects and establishes program timelines. Provides technical and automation support to all automation and robotic equipment, as well as supporting software installation, software updates, setups, designs, and repairs of automation and robotic equipment. Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.

Your Responsibilities

  1. Provides manufacturing with tools and technical engineering support to implement new products and processes into production. Selects, designs, installs, and modifies equipment and fixtures for new product launches and existing products.

  2. Supports manufacturing in the resolution of manufacturing issues by providing ongoing manufacturing engineering support.

  3. Leads process design functions to determine product flow through the manufacturing cell by use of current engineering and continuous improvement techniques. Establishes resource requirements and material flow using industrial engineering techniques and internal Company standards to establish optimum cell configuration (creation of most efficient manufacturing cell from material inflow, through production, to outflow).

  4. Analyzes various product structures and processes in order to eliminate inefficiencies and reduce manufacturing costs. Performs DOE analysis to determine optimum operating parameters by manipulating variables and analyzing how they interact to achieve the most efficient cell measured in terms of processing time, quality and cost.

  5. Monitors and controls objectives and costs of assigned project and establishes program time lines.

  6. Provides automation technical support in developing, monitoring, troubleshooting, and repair on all complex automated and robotics systems.

  7. Updates all automation and robotic equipment and software related to automation and robotic equipment.

  8. Reviews engineering specifications and designs of new automation/robotic equipment and redesigns of existing equipment. This includes safety requirements, standardization of components, cost-effective design, and maintainability of equipment. Maintains robotic, automation mechanics, and equipment documents as necessary.

  9. Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives. May provide work direction and/or supervision to other staff.

  10. Understand your responsibility for health and safety in the workplace. Cooperate with OSHA MIOSHA inspectors. Wear the appropriate personal protective equipment. Follow all safety rules. Report unsafe conditions immediately. Report injuries, accidents, illnesses, near misses, property damage

  11. Immediately. Will not remove or make ineffective any protective device such as a guard, light curtain, etc. Will not use or operate any machine or equipment that the employee is not trained to operate. Will not use or operate any machine or equipment in a manner that may endanger any employee including themselves.

  1. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills to communicate with internal and external contacts and work in a team environment. Must be able to lead, train, and support other staff related to department.

  2. Must be technically current in machine design and/or equipment engineering as it applies to job duties with strong understanding of controls (i.e. operating logic) and be able to integrate them into process equipment. Must have thorough knowledge of materials, machine dynamics, etc.

  3. Demonstrated ability to analyze problems and develop appropriate solutions to assist in troubleshooting problems.

  4. Demonstrated ability to lead and manage several large and complex projects simultaneously. Must have experience with past project financial responsibilities. Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate others through support, training, etc. Must be able to manage staff toward departmental goals. Demonstrated ability to work independently on long-term assignments.

  5. Demonstrated ability to thoroughly research, recommend, and oversee implementation of new materials, processes, etc. and present information. Champions innovative opportunities to expand the organization’s current and future business.

  6. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, develop, update, and work on all molding automation and robotic equipment in designated area of responsibility.

  7. Current knowledge of automation and robotics and be able to apply it to the job.

  8. Machine rebuilding and mechanical knowledge including hydraulics required.

  9. Ability to use and program personal computers, programmable automation and robotics machine controls, with demonstrated knowledge of existing/new automated machine programming languages.

  10. Computer Aided Design skills required to create, update, read, understand, and develop mechanical, automated, and robotic machines, and/or equipment documents.

Your preferred qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.

  2. Demonstrated basic understanding of Lean Manufacturing and other current techniques related to manufacturing engineering.

  3. ABB Robotics knowledge, preferred.

  4. Minimum of four years related experience, specifically plastics process engineering.

  5. Eight years progressive professional level experience in engineering or project/program management and full competency/mastery of work area.

  6. Must be broadly familiar with technologies, products, customers, and programs
