KLA Corporation Process Development Engineer (ZZPDEPA) in Allentown, Pennsylvania
Play a central role throughout the different phases of the product life cycle for vapor deposition and etch tools. Create, develop, and optimize novel thin film coating processes using vacuum-based vapor deposition techniques for vapor depositing oxides, ceramics, organic, and hybrid organic/ inorganic materials. Characterize prepared thin films and assess results using appropriate relevant techniques but not limited to goniometry, ellipsometry, XPS, MS, FTIR, SEM, TEM, XRD, XRF, and elemental analysis. Understand customers' use-case and work with groups to define the requirements. Responsible for technology evaluation and selection, specifications development, product validation, verification, transfer to manufacturing, and support of customer ramp. Develop and release new options, features or cost reduction improvements that provide value to internal and external customers. Release and support product enhancements effectively. Maintain and coordinate daily schedules, prioritize system usage, and support all functions of the tool which include weekly health checks, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair, system calibrations, upgrades, revision control, testing, debugging and data analysis of system performance. Complete the initial diagnosis of any system issue. Work with experts in Process, Software, Electrical, and Hardware Engineering to assist in resolving issues. Utilize engineering expertise to develop KLA's suite of products. Facilitate Process Engineering R&D projects related to semiconductor surface science, thin film deposition, and etching. Schedule, plan, coordinate, and conduct both internal R&D as well as customer-related process services and demo activities. Up to 20% domestic and international travel to unanticipated locations. Salary range: $136,323-$160,800 per year.
Job Requirements: PhD in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science or Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, or related field (or foreign equivalent).
Position requires education or experience with the following:
- Chemical vapor deposition;
- Atomic layer deposition;
- Thin film characterization (AFM, SEM, XPS, and EDS);
- Thin film modeling;
- Air/moisture-sensitive materials handling;
- Theory of vacuum operation; and
Knowledge of chemistry of coating reactions/ surface chemistry.
