The Lead Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for taking on larger, more complex projects, along with various other projects and potentially some R&D initiatives. They will design custom material handling machines, meet with customers and design teams to determine mechanical applications and requirements, and work cross-functionally with the sales team, Project Manager, and build team. This role involves performing FEA using Solidworks Simulation, conducting engineering calculations such as load and stress analysis, and utilizing an ERP system to create, manage, and modify bills of materials. The engineer will handle 5-10 projects at different stages, including approval, design, manufacturing, and testing phases.
Responsibilities
Meet with customers and design teams to determine mechanical applications and requirements.
Conduct research to inform the design and engineering methods required for the mechanical systems.
Plan and execute mechanical designs using Solidworks.
Perform FEA using Solidworks Simulation.
Perform engineering calculations to support design work.
Document the design process, iterations, and test analytics.
Work with managers, designers, engineers, and manufacturers to ensure coherence.
Prepare technical reports, design specifications documents, and operational manuals.
Use ERP system to create, manage, and modify engineering bills of materials.
Conduct stress and load analysis.
Essential Skills
Mechanical design experience in Solidworks (moving mechanical parts or machine design).
Hydraulic and Pneumatic experience.
Proficient in FEA for stress and load analysis (using Solidworks Simulation).
ERP experience to create and modify BOM.
Strong communication skills.
Material handling and bulk handling experience.
Engineering degree.

Work Environment
The Mechanical Engineer will report to the Engineering Manager and work within a team of about 40 employees, including 7 mechanical engineers and 2 electrical engineers. They will not have direct reports but will be responsible for assigning workload to designers/detailers, establishing timelines, and overseeing their work. The company manufactures filling systems, dischargers, and other bulk material handling systems. The typical work week is 45 hours. Employees receive 10 days PTO, 6 standard holidays, and access to Udemy after 6 months. The work involves desk work as well as interaction with the shop floor, especially during building and testing phases.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $41.00 - $43.27
