FleetMaintenance Technician, Sr. (Fleet Mechanic), Motor Pool
Salary Range: $38,987.83 - $46,772.39 Grade: 23 (Employee: 7% on your current salary,whichever is greater; or 10.5% on your current salary, whichever is greater, ifposition is 3 grades or higher than current position)
Appointment to aposition in the classified service shall be at the minimum of the correspondingpay range unless otherwise approved.
Examination is announced to establishan employment list to fill vacancies in the Motor Pool Department and futurevacancies as they occur to perform technical and skilled mechanical,maintenance and repairs on city fleet vehicles, heavy-duty trucks, buses, fireand police vehicles and apparatus, heavy mobile equipment, and relatedequipment. Work is performed under the supervision of the Supervisor, FleetMaintenance.
Performs mechanical repairs on gasand diesel automotive and mechanical equipment, such as lawnmowers, boats,trailers, forklifts, engines, transmissions, differentials, electrical systems,front ends, brakes, and AC systems. Uses computer and diagnostic equipment todetermine mechanical problems and research to complete repairs. Submit workorders and orders parts. Conducts motor vehicle inspections. May operate a forklift. Follows establishedsafety precautions; disposes of oils, solvents, and other products per EPAregulations.
MinimumQualifications:
HighSchool diploma or GED, with vocational or technical training in automotiveand/or diesel equipment repair; with three (3) years experience inautomotive/diesel engine maintenance and repair work to include electronicdiagnostic experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training,and experience.
Automotivecertification in the appropriate area is desired.
Mustpossess a valid drivers license.
Willbe required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana drivers license at time ofappointment and maintain throughout employment.
NecessarySpecial Requirements:
- Motor Pool Department will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana Class D drivers license within one (1) month of hire. Position(s) whose assignments include Fire apparatus maintenance must complete required training as identified by the Fire Department.
- Must obtain a State of Louisiana Motor Vehicle Inspection Certification within one year of hire.

This examination mayconsist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, a performancetest or any combination thereof deemed necessary to adequately screen and rankapplicants.
