The Education Commander is responsible for planning, organization, and implementation of educational programs for Albuquerque Ambulance Service of Presbyterian Healthcare Services. Reports to Deputy Chief - System Improvement (Manager); Direct Supervision Field Operations Captains (Supervisors), Adjunct Educators, Training Teams, and Field Personnel.


*Responsible for interviewing, hiring, coaching, and mentoring direct reports; Provides relevant training and education opportunities and performance feedback; Responsible for annual performance evaluations for all direct reports.

*Maintain teaching knowledge and current instructor certifications in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS), and Instructor Coordinator.

*Coordinate and implement continuing education for field personnel of all levels of licensure in compliance with NM licenser renewal requirements.

*Coordinate and implement management level continuing education for supervisory personnel.

*Provide monthly education reports describing monthly educational offerings and participation.

*Supervision, training, professional development of Field Captains

*Education coordination and implementation based on CQI trends.

*Development of employee specific action plans to support quality improvement.

*Education coordination, planning, and implementation, and planning and forecasting. Develop education based on CQI trends; Target education and CE consultation.

*Attend department staff meetings and keep current with developments in the field through participation in seminars, workshops and/or publications. Also attends interagency meetings as required. Maintain current knowledge of department policies and procedures.

*Coordinate and implement new employee orientations

*Interacts in meaningful and supportive ways with field employees and direct reports; Evaluates performance of direct reports while operating in the field. Consistently meets expectations regarding relationship and trust building with employees.

*Maintains a professional relationship with ancillary EMS support personnel such as other EMS agencies and hospital staff as well as other departments within AAS to promote cooperation, problem solving, and communication; Functions within the Bernalillo County ICS Command Structure.

*Provide mentorship and guidance as needed.

*Performs other duties as requestedOther information:

Associates degree in EMS, Business, or other healthcare related field or 3 years of related experience can be substituted in lieu of degree; 5 years as an EMT-Paramedic in an area with high volume, comparable to AAS; New Mexico Instructor Coordinator preferred. Instructor Certifications from AHA and/or ASHI (BLS, ACLS, PALS/PEPP/PEARS); NAEMT (PHTLS and AMLS).
