What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a R&D Manager to lead a department responsible for mechanical designs with a diverse portfolio and specializing in precision opto-mechanical systems. This position provides opportunity with business development and practicing agility for the vast range of programs we support. We deliver precision mechanical products, that we profoundly understand, for high consequence national security applications. Understanding of the product realization process and the principle of Excellence vs. Perfection is critical to the success of this role. Our customers include Strategic Partnership Programs (SPP) in addition to NNSA funded projects.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Develop strategies to accelerate product realization time cycles and create an agile environment.

  • The technical manager will be expected to develop a broad understanding of the products we deliver and their roles in next level assemblies.

  • The manager will lead technical teams of engineers and technologists and assure that, through engineering, operational, and project management excellence, the department delivers mechanical products by leading the innovation and development of advanced mechanical designs for the 7610 Group.

  • Partner and develop strong trust-based relationships with customers and stakeholders.

  • Champion a culture of diversity, equality and inclusion and take an active leadership role in modeling and growing these values.

  • Use your technical and mission experience to help guide and represent the Department to relevant internal and external representatives.

Salary Range:

$149,700 - $254,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s and advanced degree in mechanical, electrical, or closely related engineering discipline such in STEM plus eight or more years relevant experience;

  • or equivalent combination of a bachelor’s degree in STEM and relevant technical and leader experience will be considered.

  • Current DOE Q-level security clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Master’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering discipline.

  • Two years of demonstrated leadership experience.

  • Familiar with NW systems/subsystems and/or Strategic Partnership Programs (SPP)

  • Work experience in a product realization environment leading a team or in a senior engineering or similar technical leadership role.

  • Strong background in establishing and maintaining trust-based relationships.

  • Effective program management skills in meeting deliverables

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Experience working with external stakeholders.

  • Familiar with NW systems/subsystems and/or Strategic Partnership Programs (SPP)

  • Passion in agility and coming up with solutions to move faster on project execution.

  • Current SCI clearance

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
