Data Management Specialist Resource Assistant

Position Details

Stewards Individual Placement Program (Stewards) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health.

Stewards in partnership with Cibola National Forest and National Grasslands seeks a Data Support Services Specialist. The incumbent assists with a variety of duties associated with the day to day operation of the data services specialist program. Under close supervision, the incumbent may perform any of the following duties: provides guidance and support to the forests with the management of natural resources software, programs and applications for corporate databases and gains technical ability to write database queries. Provides input on development and deployment efforts for corporate and Geographic Information System (GIS) applications and assists with training to forest and district personnel.

Position Responsibilities will include:

· Uses digital data to create and maintain tabular natural resources data.

· Produces and communicates information to identify changes, to ensure that a correct and complete tabular database is existing for corporate systems.

· Provides for the organization, maintenance, and consistency of data in the.

· Resolves errors and ensures accuracy of data. Utilizes computer software programs to process and manipulate data to final output specifications.

· Assists in project planning, developing timelines and milestones, data analysis assessments, and estimates of resources, which are required to be able to accomplish projects.

· Uses standard approaches to perform duties related to special projects involving administrative or program issues.

· Excerpts and assembles information, conducts analysis, and develops reports or presentations.

Minimum Requirements:

· The position requires skill in applying analytical and evaluative techniques to the identification, consideration, and resolution of issues or problems of a procedural or factual nature; knowledge of the theory and principles of management and organization; ability to use qualitative and quantitative analytical techniques; and communication skills to obtain information and discuss issues and operations with supervisors and employees.

· Basic knowledge of relational database principles and the ability to learn new database technologies.

· Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by Conservation Legacy (over 21 years old or drivers license for at least three years).

· Must be 18 years or older.

· High School Diploma/GED

· US Citizen or Permanent Legal Resident

· Must be able to obtain a post-secondary degree by completion of program (Associate’s or higher)

Preferred Qualifications:

· Knowledge of basic natural resource management practices and the Forest Service policy.

Benefits:

· $1000.00/month living allowance. (pre-tax, $250 per week)

· $50/monthly commuting allowance. (pre-tax)

· $4750.00 Professional Development and Travel fund.

*The USFS Resource Assistant Program (RAP) is a rigorous, immersive, paid internship providing developmental and training opportunities for individuals interested in learning more about Forest Service careers. After completing a minimum of 960 hours of satisfactory work and an associate degree, RA’s may acquire a two-year certificate of noncompetitive hiring eligibility. The certificate enables participants to apply to internal merit announcements for qualifying permanent General Schedule FS positions as well as a Direct Hire Authority for FS Career positions.
