Duties Description The New York State Department of Financial Services seeks to build an equitable, transparent, and resilient financial system that benefits individuals and supports business. Through engagement, data-driven regulation and policy, and operational excellence, the Department and its employees are responsible for empowering consumers and protecting them from financial harm; ensuring the health of the entities we regulate; driving economic growth in New York through responsible innovation; and preserving the stability of the global financial system.The Department of Financial Services is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Systems Architect to join our dynamic IT team. The Systems Architect will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining complex IT systems and networks that support the strategic goals of NYS DFS. This role requires extensive technical expertise, strong project management skills, and effective communication abilities to ensure seamless integration and operation of information systems.Duties will include, but not be limited to, some or all of the following:• Creates comprehensive IT architecture models that align with the strategic objectives of NYS DFS;• Supervises the implementation of integrated systems solutions, ensuring they meet operational requirements;• Works closely with stakeholders to understand and document system requirements and translates them into technical specifications;• Develops and maintains detailed technical documentation for system designs, configurations, and procedures;• Ensures that all systems are scalable, secure, and meet performance and reliability standards;• Conducts regular assessments of existing systems and recommends upgrades or improvements as needed;• Identifies and resolves technical issues promptly to minimize downtime and ensure optimal system performance;• Continuously monitors and optimizes system performance and efficiency;• Manages project timelines, resources, and deliverables to ensure successful project execution;• Stays current with emerging technologies and industry trends to recommend innovative solutions;• Coordinates with IT and business teams to ensure alignment of system initiatives with organizational goals;• Develops and implements disaster recovery and backup strategies to protect critical systems and data;• Provides guidance and mentorship to IT staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.

Minimum Qualifications Preferred Qualifications• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, and seven years of relevant experience.• Strong technical knowledge of IT infrastructure, excellent problem-solving skills, project management experience, and effective communication abilities.• Demonstrated experience in systems architecture, design, and implementation within a complex organizational environment.Appointment method: This is an appointment to a position in the exempt jurisdictional class. As such, the incumbent of this position would serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority.

Additional Comments Positions located within the New York City metropolitan area, as well as Suffolk, Nassau, Rockland, and Westchester Counties, are also eligible to receive an additional $3,400 annual downstate adjustment.Appointment Status: This is an appointment to a position in the exempt jurisdictional class.Appointment to this position is pending Governor Appointment’s Office and Division of Budget approval
