Russell Sage College Assistant Director of Residence Life in Albany or Troy, New York

Position: The Assistant Director administers all operations of Russell Sage College housing on the Troy or Albany Campus. This individual reports to the Director of Residence Life. This is a full-time, live-in 10-month administrative position. The duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and direction to the Residence Life program consistent with Russell Sage Colleges mission, values and goals.

  • Supervise 14 resident assistants and one graduate assistant.

  • Coordinate with the Office of Facilities for repairs and custodial issues in residence halls by overseeing the work order process including inputting and follow up while maintaining consistent communications.

  • Work with faculty to maintain inclusive and vital living learning communities that promote personal growth and integrate classroom learning with residence programs and out of classroom experiences.

  • Provide appropriate response, referral and leadership in emergency crisis situations.

  • Ensure the coordination and implementation of various programs and activities in the residence halls.

  • Plan and implement the selection and training of resident assistants.

  • Plan, coordinate, and implement all RAISE training events during the academic year

  • Provide training for resident assistants and graduate assistants that promotes an equitable, diverse, and inclusive community for residential students.

  • Coordinate the room reservation process.

  • Educate students about college policies and procedures and ensure the fair, consistent enforcement of disciplinary matters and adjudicate incidents of minor and major misconduct by serving as a Conduct Hearing Officer.

  • Assume emergency "on-call" responsibilities each semester.

  • Provide support and guidance to students in distress utilizing counseling and referrals.

  • Serve on college-wide committees as needed.

  • Participate in various first year programs, such as mentor training and orientation.

  • Conduct evaluations and needs assessment regarding first year students and make recommendations to the Director of Residence Life.

  • Coordinate general office duties such as key distribution, maintenance repair requests, roommate dispute resolution, etc.

  • Supervise student Residence Hall Front Desk Attendants

  • Maintain regular, frequent communication with the Director and other Residence Life staff.

  • Attend Residence Life staff meetings as scheduled.

  • Conduct weekly Resident Assistant staff meetings during the academic year.

  • Oversee the RA programming budget.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Residence Life.

The estimated salary is $35,500 per year for 10 months. The benefits for this position also include a fully-furnished apartment including all utilities and a full meal plan during the academic year.

Job Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in related field (masters preferred) with 2-3 years post-undergraduate experience in residence life and student leadership. Experience working with diverse student populations required.
