Description

English/Language Arts Teacher

Sign On Bonus $5,000 (paid in 2 parts 1/2 at 30 days and1/2 at a year)

As an English /Language Arts Teacher, you will develop and implement the English/Language Arts classroom instructional plans for students. You will report to the principle and will work onsite.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide subject area instruction (English/Language Arts) that follow the NYS K-12 English/Language Arts curricula and prepares students for exit examinations and statewide assessments.

  • Develop and implement English/Language Arts instructional materials to provide individual and small group instruction to students of various ability levels. At the high school level develop lessons, teach, and prepare students for examinations in English/Language Arts.

  • Develop and implement a classroom instructional plan with the Special Education Teacher that integrates the students IEP goals and objectives, learning style. as well as accommodations and modifications that are needed.

  • Develop and implement with the Special Education Teacher, individual and classroom behavior plans for managing student behavior to maintain discipline in the Classroom; assist classroom staff with crisis prevention and intervention techniques; assist classroom with de-escalation techniques; teach students appropriate behavior strategies.

  • Use the classroom PBIS universal plan and Tier 2 and 3 strategies for selected students.

  • Manage and coordinate the safety and well-being of students through the use of established classroom and schoolwide processes and procedures; supervise classroom staff implementing these with their work with students throughout the building.

  • Follow school and agency procedures and policies for reporting incidents. This includes behavior incident reports as well as incidents such as child/sexual abuse, substance abuse, harassment, bullying, and violence.

  • Establish positive relationships with parents and family members to create a partnership around student treatment, student behavior, and academic progress.

  • Participate in classroom grade level, and behavioral/treatment meetings as well as professional training and development sessions(e.g. TCI, CPR, emergency procedures and other agency requirements).

  • Follow all Agency policies and procedures, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to our school and students.

  • Provide leadership to assigned teacher assistants in various clerical and non-instructional duties as need for your classroom.

  • Work collaboratively with other teachers, clinicians, administrators, medical staff, and other school staff to provide integrated support, assistance, and treatment to students.

    Requirements and Education:

  • A Master's degree in Special Education or subject area and the ability to work with students who demonstrate serious emotional and behavioral challenges, ages 6-21. a Bachelor's degree with enrollment in a program that leads to a master's degree may be considered.

  • A NYS certification in Special Education or subject area, or enrollment in a program that leads to a NYS teacher certification.

  • Must be able to lift 35 pounds
