Position SummaryWe are seeking a dynamic Automation Engineer to join our Enterprise Observability team, focusing on developing and implementing automation solutions to enhance our observability and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in automation and observability technologies and a proven track record of leveraging these tools to streamline IT processes. With at least 4 years of experience in the field, the successful candidate will be well-versed in source code management using GitHub and skilled in developing automation using Ansible, PowerShell, Terraform, Jenkins, and preferably Python. This role involves crafting and deploying automation frameworks and solutions that enhance the monitoring and management of our IT systems, ensuring scalability, reliability, and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain automation solutions to support observability and IT operations, focusing on improving system monitoring, alerting, and reporting capabilities. This includes but is not limited to agent deployment and management, synthetic transaction monitoring, and incident remediation and validation workflows.

  • Manage source code and version control using GitHub, ensuring best practices in version control, code sharing, branching, and collaboration.

  • Develop automation scripts and tools using Ansible for configuration management, PowerShell for task automation, Terraform for infrastructure as code (IaC) implementations, and Jenkins for continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.

  • Employ Python scripting to enhance automation efforts, contributing to more sophisticated data analysis and operational workflows.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify automation opportunities that can streamline processes, reduce manual interventions, and improve system reliability and performance.

  • Participate in the full lifecycle of automation project development, from requirements gathering and design to deployment and maintenance.

  • Document automation processes and solutions, providing clear guidelines and support for IT operations and development teams.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to automation scripts and systems, providing expert guidance and solutions to enhance performance.

  • Stay updated on the latest automation technologies and practices, continuously seeking ways to improve our operations and contribute to innovation within the team.

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience developing automation solutions for observability and IT operations.

  • Strong proficiency (4+ years) in source code management using GitHub, including branching, merging, and pull requests.

  • Strong expertise (4+ years) using Ansible, PowerShell, Terraform, and Jenkins for developing operational automation solutions.

  • Experience (3+ years) developing and maintaining event management solutions involving ServiceNow ITOM event management, CMDB, AIOps, and various observability platforms.

  • Proficiency in Python (3+ years) for scripting and automation tasks is highly desirable.

  • Experience (4+ years) with modern observability tools (e.g., App Dynamics, Cisco Cloud Observability, Prometheus, Grafana, App Dynamics, ELK stack, DynaTrace, New Relic) and related practices.

  • Solid understanding (5+ years) of IT operations, system administration, and observability principles.

  • Experience (4+ years) developing synthetic transaction monitors to validate system performance and functionality.

  • Experience (4+ years) with CI/CD practices and tools, and the ability to integrate automation solutions into CI/CD pipelines.

  • Ability to break down complex issues and develop innovative, comprehensive solutions.

  • Strong analytical skills, with a focus on delivering actionable insights and improvements.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively with diverse teams.

    Education-

    Bachelor degree from accredited university or equivalent work experience(HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience)

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$118,450.00 - $236,900.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
