SUNY System Administration Director of Research and Data Strategy in Albany, New York

The State University of New York System Administration, located in Albany, New York, seeks a Director of Research Data Strategy for the Office of Research, Innovation and Economic Development (ORIED). The incumbent will support the Senior Vice-Chancellor for Research in executing on the mission of the Office by defining and leading strategic initiatives focused specifically on use of data to spur and inspire innovation at all levels, especially in and through faculty, staff, and student research activities.ORIED amplifies and supports the work of SUNY faculty and student researchers and scholars. Working alongside the Research Foundation, we create opportunities for growth, economies of scale, robust infrastructure, and build pathways of connection. We do this through our dynamic, data-driven initiatives, funding programs, proactive outreach, and advocacy. ORIED helps to grow the research enterprise and entrepreneurship ecosystem, elevating the SUNY community's impact in intellectual achievement and the public good.The Director's responsibilities include but are not limited to:Articulate, communicate and be a visible champion for the vision of the Office in general and its data strategy in particular.Cultivate relationships and make connections within and across the State University of New York including System Administration, SUNY campuses and the RF to ensure that SUNY's research strategy is informed by data at every turn.Encourage and facilitate cross-disciplinary collaborations, connecting science and technology with arts and humanities to inspire creativity and open-mindedness.Serve as Data Trustee for data pertaining to research within SUNY System Administration and collaborate with the Research Foundation and other offices within SUNY on efforts to develop policies and procedures to ensure best practices for data stewardship and data governance are maintained and followed. Stay apprised of best practices, methodologies and innovations in Research Analytics, Research Information Systems and Research Data Management.Supervise members of the Research Data Strategy team in leveraging data platforms and analysis software to generate actionable insights and strategy to drive program development and resource allocation.Develop processes to track and report on KPIs, goals and related metrics.Work with leadership to define and refine specific metrics for assessing the success and impact of all of these data-focused endeavors of the Director and the ORIED. Lead efforts to procure and deploy a system-wide Research Information Management system and portal to facilitate collaborations, identification of research expertise, and sharing of research equipment.Stay apprised of Federal and State regulations and priorities pertaining to publicly sponsored research, research data, privacy and security, and provide leadership to SUNY campuses in these areas.Requirements:Bachelor's degreeDeep experience with data, including data governance, data curation, metadata curation, and data analyticsDirect knowledge of the research information management, research data management and the research analytics landscapeStrategic planning skills and experienceExperience as a supervisor and/or mentorExperience leading task forces and cross-functional teamsPreferred QualificationsAdvanced degree in a related fieldPrior experience in higher educationExperience with data implementation strategy based on large data Additional Information:Salary is dependent on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, experience, education, training, and certifications. The range for this position is $116,000-$137,000.Excellent Benefit Package which includes: NYS health insurance, free dental and vision coverage, competitive retirement options, tuition assistance, parental leave at full pay, and generous vacation, sick, and holiday time.13 days of paid holidays per year; 21 days of vacation and 21 days of sick time accrued each year. Minimum Salary: 116,000 Maximum Salary: 137,000 Salary Unit: Yearly
