The Department of Health Policy, Management & Behavior (HPMB), School of Public Health at the University at Albany, State University of New York, seeks applications for a fully funded, tenure-track assistant professor who has expertise in public health policy, health care policy, or health care management. People with interdisciplinary training are welcome to apply.

Successful candidates will be expected to develop and sustain externally funded research in domestic or global health policy within organizations, government, or health care. Candidates with research expertise in health care management are also welcome to apply. Candidates will have collaborative opportunities for public and private sector consulting and/or for research initiatives. The School has a long-standing partnership with the New York State Department of Health, and relationships with local insurers, hospitals, non-profit and advocacy organizations, and associations. There are opportunities for collaboration with Colleges and Schools across the university, such as the School of Social Welfare and Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Administration.

The School of Public Health is housed in the most diverse public Research 1 university in the US and has a close partnership with the New York State Department of Health. Faculty have opportunities for timely and impactful research to improve health and reduce health inequities in New York State, the nation, and across the globe. There are opportunities for candidates to collaborate with Centers and Institutes, such as the Institute for Social and Health Equity, Center for the Elimination of Minority Health Disparities, and the Center for Collaborative HIV Research, Practice, and Policy (CCHRP).

The candidate will increase the Department's teaching capacity at the undergraduate and graduate level in health policy and management, with the opportunity to teach courses in public health leadership, health policy, and healthcare strategy and management. The School has a rapidly growing BS in Public Health program, on-campus and online MPH programs, and master's and doctoral programs in Health Policy and Management, Social Behavior and Community Health, Epidemiology, Environmental Health, and Biomedical Sciences. The School offers Graduate Certificate Programs in Public Health, Global Health, Maternal and Child Health, HIV Studies, Health Disparities, and Public Health Surveaffillance and Preparedness. Students have unique and extensive experiential learning in public health practice. This candidate will mentor master's and doctoral students and actively engage in university, professional, and community service. The School is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health and offers MPH, MS, DrPH (Doctor of Public Health), and PhD degrees.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A doctoral degree in health policy, health services research, health management/administration, or a related field from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization by 5/1/2025. Candidates who will not hold the degree by this date will not be considered.

  • The successful candidate must demonstrate evidence of scholarly research achievement. (e.g., peer reviewed manuscripts, commissioned reports, evidence-informed articles, or presentations at scientific meetings/conferences). Books and book chapters are accepted if they are peer-reviewed.

  • The successful candidate must demonstrate their plan and ability to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in varying modalities including in-person and online and address how diversity, equity, and inclusion would be considered (e.g., course development, strategies for course instruction, ideas for mentoring).

  • Applicants must demonstrate in their cover letter how they have supported diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging in their research and service and how they intend to continue doing so in this position.
