The Senior Oracle Database Administrator / Site Lead performs database management and administration. The position will work with stakeholders, team members and sponsors to manage database software including, but not limited to Oracle.

Responsibilities

  • Creating, editing and executing scripts to process data; monitoring database performance; assisting Federal Government support staff.

  • Creating, editing and maintaining database schemas.

  • Creating database instances to include control files, redo logs, archive log mode and other required parameters.

  • Providing IT project management guidance and expertise to Federal Government support staff for projects and special projects as needed, by assisting with new project charters, schedules, requirements and other project management related tasks tracked via a Service Desk or Project Management solution such as Remedy.

  • Integrating DBMS(s) and data with existing application software, websites, portals, storage devices or business applications as well as assisting and testing Disaster Recovery (DR) and Continuity of Operations Plans (COOP).

  • Recovering from database failures, DBMS and data using Oracle RMAN and FLASHBACK or other designated recovery utilities.

  • Reading/interpreting database error messages and executing recovery of database instance(s), data or other pertinent database components; engage Oracle support by submitting and monitoring the status of an Oracle Service Request via Metalink or similar tool.

  • Supporting virtual web hosting, virtual databases, and virtual management of DBMS(s).

  • Remotely administering database instances using secure shell (SSH), KVM over Internet Protocol (IP) and other remote access tools.

  • Implementing DoD, Department of the Navy (DoN), and Marine Corps mandated upgrades and security patches to the DBMS Software, to include quarterly Critical Patch Updates.

  • Performing and analyzing database error messages / alert logs daily from the start of normal business hours and implementing corrective actions to resolve issues.

  • Utilizing Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) or other designated tools to monitor and maintain the database environment.

  • Recommending and implementing hardware, software, database or network solutions to resolve problems.

  • Evaluating indicators from hardware or network devices and consistently implement a permanent resolution.

  • Analyzing file systems and storage zones to resolve issues.

  • Creating/Maintaining/Updating/Closing Incidents to coordinate incident resolution with the LOGCOM C4 or MDMC Service Desks via a Service Desk or Project Management solution such as Altiris or Remedy.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Oracle Certification OR

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Technologies OR

  • Minimum 12 semester hours in a combination of database administration, mathematics, Business Systems Analysis and Design, computer platform technologies, mathematical logic, or science OR

  • Minimum three (3) years of subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics

  • Possess an Active Secret Clearance

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to demonstrate accomplishments in designing, coding, testing and supporting next-generation database solutions in Oracle enterprise and SQL Server environments.

  • Knowledge and familiarity of Logical Unit Numbers (LUN), file systems, disks, zones and other storage media on various storage devices in a Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID); implementing shared database file systems in a SAN/NAS/RAC environment.

  • Ability to provide server and database support, including installation, patching, upgrading and maintenance;

  • Ability to administer user access, provisioning and deprovisioning in accordance with policy and procedures;

  • Ability to perform database maintenance such as indexing, statistics, backup and restore, performance tuning, full text indexes, data archival, user access security, partitioning and data compression;

  • Ability to create, edit and maintain database schemas;

  • Ability to implement High Availability/Disaster Recovery utilizing various methods, such as mirroring, peer-to-peer replication, and clustering;

  • Ability to provide support by collaborating with systems analysts, developers, business analysts, and project teams; and

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

  • Oracle Web Services (Versions 11g and Above)

  • Oracle Delegated Administration Services (Versions 11g and Above)

  • Oracle Enterprise Content Management Suite (Versions 11g and Above)
