Department: Education, Youth Services Reports to: Youth Services Manager

SUMMARY: To welcome and document attendance for each student participant each day while serving as conduit between parents, Summer Recreation Program Coordinator, Summer Recreation workers, Youth Services Manager and Akwesasne Boys and Girls Club facility administration. The Summer Youth Program Assistant will consider the needs of the youth participant(s). Must demonstrate acceptance of responsibility; show pride in work; demonstrate flexibility and a high level of professionalism and respectful of the opportunity to work within the assigned division.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

· Complete and maintain time and attendance records of recreation workers and participants.

· Exhibit a friendly and courteous manner when dealing with our employees and fellow associates.

· Answer telephones and give information to callers, take messages, or transfer calls to appropriate individuals.

· Greet visitors and callers, handle their inquiries, and direct them to the appropriate persons according to their needs.

· Maintain paper and electronic filing systems for records, correspondence, and other material.

· Create a safe and positive learning environment for children ages 6 to 11 years old.

· Assist the Summer Program Recreation Coordinator in keeping track of the school facilities and equipment for safety.

· Be aware of daily planning of events such as beach day, cultural events, educational activities, as well as guest speakers and presentations.

· Will assist in informing of any maintenance requirements of the school facilities and assist with upkeep of the school and recreational facilities.

· Assist in maintaining rules and regulations in order to maintain and ensure safety of all summer program staff and participants.

· Administer first aid according to prescribed procedures and notify emergency personnel when necessary.

· Report and document all incidents, injuries, accidents or allegations of abuse to the Youth Recreation Coordinator.

· Complete necessary documentation and forward to designated personnel.

· Other duties as may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: There are no supervisor requirements for this position.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. This individual should be energetic, self-motivated, compassionate, and hard- working. They should also be knowledgeable of community dynamics and resources as well as trauma-informed care.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: A minimum of a high school diploma or GED with a minimum of one-year experience working in an early childhood setting and/or educational setting.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Strong oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills required. Must display maturity and a high level of professionalism and high organizational skills with keen attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of MS Office applications, especially Word, Excel, and Power Point. Must possess the ability to be attentive, meticulous and thorough. Interest/experience with photography, radio and/or video is considered an asset.

· Establish and maintain effective and healthy working relationships with others, including staff, family members and others who may be under distress or duress.

· Communicate and relate effectively with program staff, families and children.

· Positively deal with crisis situations. Deal with hostile, aggressive persons or situations.

· Will be aware and sensitive to the needs that may arise when handling stressful and demanding circumstances. Immediate debriefing will be made available.

· Knowingly, carelessly, or recklessly divulges any information or documentation which has to come to their attention as an employee of the Tribe and which it is the duty of the employee to keep confidential; or knowingly, carelessly, or recklessly divulges any information of a personal nature relation to fellow employees or clients.

· Promote a positive image of the summer program through healthy relationships with the families and employees served by the program.

· Foster a climate of respect and integrity.

The successful candidate must pass a test for illegal substances prior to employment being confirmed.

The successful candidate must pass a criminal background check prior to employment.

A list of qualified candidates is created from interviews that may be used for Emergency Hire individuals to similar positions within the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe for a period of six months.
