Position Summary

This position is part of the Materials Chemical Lab at the Bridgestone Americas Material Laboratories, located at the Americas Technology Center in Akron, OH. The Analytical Laboratory Technician will work on performing tasks that are routine and semi-routine in nature to support research and development operations. This position requires basic knowledge of analytical chemistry tools and techniques, obtained through a degree in chemistry or related field, or through equivalent work experience. This role will maintain and improve safety, quality, and productivity to meet laboratory KPI’s and individual performance goals. Although problems seen in this role will typically be routine in nature, at times the job may require the technician to deviate from standard procedures. This role will also require the individual to remain proactive in identifying potential issues and communicating them to management in a clear and effective manner. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated, collaborative individual, who is able to consistently deliver high-quality results.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to safety, housekeeping, and quality standards and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives for these standards as assigned.

  • Contribute towards the chemical characterization of new rubber compounds and rubber materials as well as non-rubber materials for tire applications.

  • Perform routine and semi-routine testing to support new product development and raw material evaluations.

  • Learn and perform testing using a variety of chemical testing instruments in a high-paced laboratory.

  • Possess basic computer skills necessary for operating equipment (Microsoft Office Suite, web-based navigation, instrument operation software, etc.).

  • Maintain and demonstrate excellent time management skills and complete work while considering priorities and turnaround goals.

  • Possess effective communication skills to be able to explain concerns with management, teammates, customers, or vendors as necessary.

  • Work with chemicals and in areas that may have nuisance fumes, dust, heat and noise.

  • Set up, configure, install, maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.

  • Compile data, operating records, control records and reports of test results.

  • Perform calibration and preventative maintenance on laboratory instruments as necessary.

  • Able to lift up to 30 pounds.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.

  • 1-2 years of work experience in an analytical chemistry lab.

  • Basic computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry or a related scientific field.

  • Technical understanding of general wet chemistry techniques and analytical instrumentation.

  • A basic knowledge of rubber chemistry, rubber formulations, and/or polymer chemistry.

Minimum Qualifications

Typically requires a minimum of 1-2 years of related experience
