We are currently hiring a Mechanical Engineer in our front end mechanical quality engineering group. This team is responsible for overall product quality of hardware for our flagship products/platforms. The Mechanical QE group is charged with improving engineering efficiency and design quality by reducing re-spins and design errors. You will work closely with the Teradyne Continuing Engineering Group and the Core Design groups within the company.

The successful candidate will anticipate, understand, and resolve the problems that occur when working with products that are composed of complex mechanical and electro-mechanical subsystems. Knowledge and experience must permit the ability to lead and judge the appropriateness of design solutions developed by staff, peers, and core designers. The candidate will have a solid mechanical engineering background.

Responsibilities

• Work with Design Engineering, New Product Integration, Continuous Engineering and Supply Line Management to ensure quality standards are in place and met at all times.

• Develop and maintain standards for quality, including design processes, analyses, documentation, and testing procedures, DOEs, etc.

• Evaluate designs, analyses, and test plans created.

• Participate in & analyze findings from internal audits of new product builds.

• Analyze existing processes & recommend improvements.

• Drive the implementation of effective Root Cause Analysis and Corrective & Preventive Actions to resolve issues and prevent recurrence.

• Support education and training within the SemiTest mechanical community related to quality processes and workmanship standards.

• Carry out design verification testing of electro-mechanical design, which may include fixture development for testing such as life-cycle testing.

• Work with very little oversight beyond high level direction., be a self-starter, and be able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.

• Task oriented, goal driven, and be willing to drive issues to closure.

• Communicate and listen to the needs of staff and to work effectively with the rest of the Continuing Engineering Group and Core Design groups.

• Establish and maintain productive cross-functional relationships with Program Management, Engineering, New Product Integration, Operations, and Supply Line Management departments.

• Travel to customer sites, manufacturers, Core Design sites that are all located anywhere in the world to investigate and test engineering designs (5% to 10%).

Basic Qualifications & Skills

• Experience working with electro-mechanical packaging layout and design including sheet metal, plastics, cabling, and PC Boards is desired.

• Demonstrated proficiency in the use of SolidWorks or similar.

• SolidWorks simulation and PDM.

• Solid engineering and analytical skills and a working knowledge of geometric tolerancing (GD&T), Finite Element Analysis, & Stack-Up tolerance analysis.

• Ability to define, direct, and participate in the design verification testing of design solutions.

• Working knowledge of specifications, BOMs, assemblies, ECO/ECN generation & implementation.

• Understanding of product development and manufacturing processes, such machined parts, molded and sheet metal.

• Engineering Materials Knowledge.

• Practical experience using Design FMEA.

• Knowledge of DFM & DFA principles.

• Knowledge of basic QA and reliability principles.

• Excellent organizational, communication, & interpersonal skills.

• Self-motivated, team oriented, and “hands-on”.

• A strong self-starter with regards to understanding TER Processes.

• Ability to interface effectively with other Teradyne organizations and customers.

• RCA methods such, 8D, 5W and A3 knowledge.

Preferred Qualifications

• Participated and executed Lean Manufacturing Programs.

• Working knowledge of fluid flow and structural analysis software tools is desired.

• Six Sigma Certified or Lean Six Sigma Certified (CSSGB, CSSBB, LSSGB, LSSBB)

• 2+ years of experience using Quality Function Deployment matrixes.

• 3+ years of experience with Design FMEA, and mechanical risk analysis.

• 3+ years of experience documenting and managing CAPAs.

Education

Requires BS Mechanical Engineering (advanced degree strongly preferred)

8-10 years of proven experience performing mechanical engineering in fast paced environment, Minimum GPA: 3.0/4.0
