COFMC Phlebotomist in Ada, Oklahoma

POSITIION: Phlebotomist

NATURE OF POSITION:  

  • The Phlebotomist performs waived testing and corresponding controls, and tests, in which he/she has had specific training. Assists with supply inventory and records. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent 

  • Training appropriate for the tests being administered 

RESPONSIBLE TO: Medical Laboratory Technician Supervisor 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Performs venipuncture on adults and pediatrics 

  • Performs capillary (finger, toe, heal) blood collection on adults and pediatrics 

  • Processes specimens according to test specifications 

  • Records workload and test results according to established lab protocols 

  • Processes Pap Smear results and keeps the tickler file for follow-up 

  • Performs waived and approved testing using appropriate equipment and materials 

  • Performs and appropriately documents quality control procedures, instrument checks and maintenance reports 

  • Consults with supervisor when controls are out of range, test results are abnormal, or when difficulties are encountered in testing procedure 

  • Maintains good working relationships with other employees and observes patient confidentiality 

  • Protects the confidentiality of patients and their records at all times by complying with the COFMC policies regarding patient confidentiality 

  • Performs other duties as directed
