JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Academic Advisers provide academic evaluation, guidance, and assistance to students. Responsibilities include assessing student interests, abilities, and academic performance; providing guidance including course selection and schedules; assisting with resolving academic issues.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assess student needs and provide academic advice; advise students in course selection, scheduling, and other academic matters; monitor academic progress; assist in resolving academic issues; make referrals as needed; maintain and ensure confidentiality of student records

  • Assist with coordinating designated student group testing, consulting, and advising program/services

  • Prepare and disseminate information to a variety of audiences

  • Coordinate and participate in recruitment and retention activities; conduct meetings for prospective students/families, high school counselors, and University staff

  • Serve as liaison between students, faculty, staff, campus and University constituents

  • May evaluate academic advising services; as instructed, propose, update, or develop programs/improvements

  • May serve as mentor to other academic advising staff; coordinate training and development

    Education and Experience Requirements:

    This position requires a master's degree and 3+ year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree or equivalent in student development, counseling, education, or related field preferred. Experience in higher education preferred.

    This position requires successful completion of the following background checks:

  • PA State Police Criminal Background Check

  • PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form

  • Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check

    Competencies critical to success include:

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and written/oral communication skills are essential.

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred but not required.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, data management software, and knowledge of web-based student information systems and early alert systems PeopleSoft and Starfish also preferred.

  • The successful candidate will have demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and development in the areas of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) that support students of diverse socioeconomic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.

    This position offers a flexible work arrangement that combines remote and on-campus work. Questions related to flexible work should be directed to the hiring manager during the interview process.

    This position is hiring for a January 2025 start date.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$46,400.00 - $67,300.00
