Work may include creation of specialized electrical or electronic devices to meet needs of the campus. Typical work involves telephone, fire alarm and fire sprinkler systems, electrical and electronic adaptive and monitoring equipment, and similar electrical and electronic devices and equipment. May function as a resource specialist in a designated skilled trade. Has extensive knowledge of the Life Safety Code and related codes to include fire and smoke control, fire doors, fire alarms and associated equipment, fire suppression and vent hood systems, State Fire Marshal and ICF-MR inspection and compliance criteria. Communicates to promote productive work relationships. Works under minimal supervision with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.Essential Job FunctionsAttends Work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.Performs building and systems inspections and preventive maintenance inspections. Assembles, installs, repairs, and maintains fire alarm, fire extinguisher, fire sprinkler, electrical and electronic equipment. Plans, schedules, and oversees building systems repair, renovation, or restoration projects. Performs repairs and renovations to modernize a building (or system) or adapt it to new uses. Troubleshoots fire alarm and fire sprinkler system malfunctions and correctly determines causes and necessary corrective actions. Trains employees on electrical and electronic-related equipment, procedures, and safety practices. Completes paperwork and oversees a record-keeping system. Maintains inventory of shop equipment, supplies, materials and components. Requisitions needed supplies and equipment. Communicates, orally and in writing, to facilitate maintenance-related business and promote productive work relationships.
