GSI Service Group Inc. Junior Systems Administrator in Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland
JOB SUMMARY
In this role, you will analyze existing systems and maintain, define, design, develop, and implement moderately complex technical products and systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES:
Analyze system architecture and develop solutions to issues within the constraints imposed by the limitations of the current hardware
Participate in gathering functional and performative requirements for all business-related matters, products, and services that are associated with federal customers and GSI Service Group
Manage Linux systems hosted on both bare metal hardware and virtual machines, including the applications, processes, and services that the system supports or may support in the future
Design and implement solutions on systems that host both new and legacy technology in accordance with current regulation and mission requirements
Review system logs and identify potential issues
Monitor the day-to-day operational status of all applications as defined by the mission requirements
Install government-provided software patches and updates to managed systems
Install and configure new systems and platforms
Perform security management functions in accordance with reports generated both internally and by federal organizations
Discuss alternative solutions when current software or application implementation does not fully meet mission criteria, causes system instability, or poorly manages resource allocation
Familiar with POAMs, STIG Checklist, government processes and procedures
Respond to security incidents promptly and with purpose
Communicate effectively with users, customers, team members, other IT professionals, and management.
Be responsible, autonomous, and seeking to improve your own level of knowledge
Investigate current security concerns and exploits within the IT and software development communities
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Associate or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field or equivalent experience
1+ years of experience in System Administration or a related field
Experience with MySQL or PostgreSQL database management is preferred
Experience with a variety of administrative tools and technologies,
Strong understanding of security principles, vulnerability analysis, and permission control
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Experience with administration of Linux servers inclusive of applications, processes the system supports.
DoD 8570 IAT II compliant (Security+ certified preferred, etc.)
Ability to obtain and maintain a T3/T5 security clearance
