U.S. Army Forces Command Administrative Officer (Secretary of the General Staff) in Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland
Summary About the Position: Serves as the Secretary of the General Staff (Secretary of the General Staff) and principal assistant to the Chief of Staff for the 20th CBRNE Command. Serves as the focal point for the complete spectrum of executive services, and for managing support of command and staff actions. Overall responsibility to assist the Chief of Staff in the execution of all matters pertaining to management of the staff and administrative processes for the Command. Responsibilities Liaises between the Command Group and the staff and serves as technical advisor on administrative policies and communications. Develops and provides recommendations on Command operating procedures and administration, headquarters space/facilities utilization, information flow/effective use of automation, and reporting. As the principle staff officer, represents the command and has the authority to commit the Chief of Staff within areas of responsibility. Directs, coordinates and manages the functional segments through a core staff, and other command resources. As SGS contacts various levels of higher echelon, including other Army Commands, major subordinate commands, and other agencies as appropriate, concerning special projects and assignments for the Command Group. Evaluates effectiveness of overall Command management operations and administration by review of reports, observation, discussion with other elements, and analysis. Exercises initiative and executive leadership in supporting the Command's missions and in representing the Command as a Direct Reporting Unit to US Army Forces Command (FORSCOM). Specialized Experience: I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service which includes (1) managing executive functions and advising senior level administrative requirements, (2) recommending organizational improvements based on changing mission requirements, and (3) advising with management officials on long range planning activities, new initiatives or program changes for continued mission support. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: - Budget Administration - Internal Controls/Integrity - Oral Communication - Organizational Awareness Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12). Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required.
