MITRE's N211 Army Mission Command Networks department is currently seeking a Sr. Network Engineer. This position is an exciting role to assist in the development of technical approaches focused on working closely with Army stakeholders to enable soldiers to successfully operate and exchange critical data in limited, contested and distributed environments with increasing resiliency and security.

Task and initiatives will focus on delivering transport agnostic capabilities that can leverage all possible communications pathways, satellite orbits, frequency bands and terrestrial communications, with automated Primary, Alternate, Contingency and Emergency (PACE) plan capabilities that are seamless to the Soldier. This project is of strategic value within the Army Program and includes working closely with Army’s technology leaders and technology developers

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a trusted advisor (thought leader and trust broker) in development of experimental architectures and assessment methodologies to inform network and voice modernization.

  • Assist in driving forward new and emerging network capabilities that are important to our users.

  • Support test and field experimentation events in coordination with government and contractor stakeholders, to experiment with new architecture concepts and/or technology offerings.

  • Provide subject matter expertise to support developing network and voice architectures, components and trade studies.

  • Keep up to date with industry trends and best practices in networking and voice technologies and standards.

  • Evaluate commercial technologies and recommend systems integration strategies that will move the modernization of the network.

  • Lead and direct technical assessments of various communications and networking components to inform systems design decisions.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically, BS in engineering, computer science or a related technical field with 5 years of related experience; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

  • Active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance.

  • Strong knowledge of networking and voice protocols and technologies, such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SIP/SIPConnect, SRTP, VPN and VLAN.

  • Experience with network and voice design and implementation, including switching, routers, firewalls/SBCs, session controllers, and load balancers.

  • Experience with network security protocols and best practices, such as firewalls, intrusion detection, and vulnerability management

  • Ability to conduct technical trade studies, collect and analyze data, identify risks, and develop mitigation strategies.

  • Ability to conduct advanced programming with a strong understanding of best practices on networking technologies

  • Excellent communications and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS in Engineering or a related field.

  • Knowledge of Army tactical and enterprise network and voice systems, integration challenges and next generation command and control goals

  • Active Top Secret
