University of Utah Lab Technician in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

Job SummaryThe Division of Pediatric Critical Care has an immediate opening for a Lab Technician. Performs technical procedures in a research laboratory under minimal supervision by applying standard scientific techniques and analytical principles. Records observations and measurements and reports results. May be responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining cleanrooms and equipment. May assist with receipt and inspection of raw materials, and ordering and stocking of materials and equipment. Technician time will be split between the Schober and Watt labs.The Schober lab focuses on neurologic outcomes after traumatic injury (TBI) to the developing brain, using a rat pup model. The Schober lab has studied Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA), a component of fish oil, and published novel findings on how inflammation in the developing rat brain responds to injury with or without treatment with DHA. Ongoing work highlights sex-dependent differences and functional aspects of the brains immune cells, such as the ability to make reactive oxygen species and phagocytose beads.
