Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) of Saratoga County’s Taste New York (TNY) Adirondacks Welcome Center promotes the region's local tourism industry, rich history, food, and beverages. The Center is a partnership between CCE of Saratoga County, Cornell University, NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets (AGM), and the NYS Empire State Development Corporation.

The Assistant Manager works as part of a dynamic and flexible team, serving as a positive, proactive role model for staff and others. The Assistant Manager manages inventory, ordering, and equipment needs, reduces shrink and waste, assists with local Taste NY vendor relationships, and provides oversight to the Center and its staff in absence of the manager.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree or GED/High School Diploma plus 1 year of related experience.

  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.

  • Ability to effectively assist in managing the Market, perform assigned responsibilities, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to constantly work flexible hours related to the Center schedule, including early mornings, nights, weekends, holidays, and during inclement weather.

  • Ability to meet the regular travel requirements associated with this position. A valid NYS driver's license and ability to drive and driving record acceptable for agency insurance coverage are required.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with others.

  • Ability to use vending sales and inventory systems, QuickBooks, internet, and Microsoft Office Suite.

This position frequently operates point of sale systems, computer systems, and other equipment.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with retail environments, managing vendor relationships, agriculture, and agri-tourism.

    Position Responsibilities & Essential Functions

Administrative Responsibilities:

Direction – 10%

  • Assist with planning Center operations, inventory, events, and staffing needs.

Management – 35%

  • Manage inventory, orders, shrink, and deliveries. Help reduce waste and overspending.

  • Manage staff work schedules. Serve as a back up to review and approve staff timecards.

  • Train staff (food safety, equipment use, etc.).

  • Provide oversight of staff in the absence of the manager.

  • Quickly identify and report issues that arise. Offers solutions as needed.

Coordination/Operation – 50%

  • Order and rotate products, food, beverages, inventory, update pricing, etc.

  • Receive incoming deliveries and transport products to the Center and off-site storage site.

  • Assist with the coordination of TNY vendor applications and insurance processes.

  • Regularly cover staff shifts (during staff shortages, call outs), perform opening and closing tasks, and other Associate tasks as needed.

  • Maintain equipment, vending machines, etc. Problem-solve mechanical issues with vending machines, refrigerators, freezers, and/or other equipment.

  • Help coordinate and attend TNY events.

  • Coordinate with NYS Department of Transportation maintenance on building and repairs.

  • Perform cash controls such as banking deposits and replenishing change in the vending machines.

  • Perform cleaning tasks.

  • Work with finance staff on accounting requirements, reconciliation, invoices, documentation, etc.

  • Complete and submit all required data, reports, records, and documentation in a timely manner.

  • Perform other duties as needed or assigned.

Professional Improvement – 5%

  • In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.

  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.

Health and Safety – Applied to all duties and functions

  • Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.

  • Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.

  • Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.

    Position Details

This is a nonexempt position, 37.5 hours/week. Compensation paid at the rate of $25-$27 per hour. Excellent benefits, based on eligibility, including:
