Temple University Laboratory Assistant in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Reference #: 24000485 Description Grade:  V11 Hourly Rate: $21.16 The Laboratory Assistant will work under the close supervision of the PI at the Lewis Katz's School of Medicine's Shriners Pediatric Research Center. The Laboratory Assistant will participate in ongoing exciting research projects to study the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying CNS regeneration failure, neuronal damage, and neural repair. The major goal of our research is to develop effective therapeutic strategies for repairing CNS injuries and disorders, including spinal cord trauma, optic nerve injury, and multiple sclerosis. The primary responsibilities for this position include maintaining lab supplies and equipment routinely conducting immunostaining and other histological and biochemical lab procedures; assist with animal experiments including surgery, histological and anatomical preparation and analyses; general laboratory animal handling, timed mating and genotyping; acquire images from various microscopes and also use imaging software to analyze data. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience: At least one year of related laboratory experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Required Skills and Abilities: *Demonstrated ability to manage mouse/rodent breeding colonies and perform mouse/rodent handling functions. *Demonstrated ability to perform histological techniques such as tissue embedding, sectioning, and staining. *Demonstrated computer skills, and proficiency with spreadsheet and database software programs. *Demonstrated knowledge of PCR and basic molecular biology method(s). *Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks. *Ability to work in an environment exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and laboratory mice without an allergic reaction. *Demonstrated ability to complete experiments in a timely manner. *Demonstrated ability to operate standard laboratory equipment. *Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills. *Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Preferred: Bachelor's Degree This is a grant funded position Click here to learn more about the benefits of working at Temple University.
