Core Responsibilities
The Project Specialist will oversee the filing of federal grants under Strategic Planning's Utility Business Strategy and Innovation Department. This grant filing position will: Manage the application process for various grant submittals, coordinate with the sponsors and experts behind the projects comprising the grants, ensure all grant submittal paperwork aligns with rate case submittals, white papers, and budgets, ensure that all grant submittals are accurate and complete, and interface with the DOE or any other grant provider if a grant is awarded.
The Project Specialist will support rate case and regulatory proceedings and support collaboratives/studies/analyses pertaining to decarbonization and emerging technologies such as low carbon fuels, hydrogen systems, and large-scale renewables. The candidate must be familiar with all three commodities and have a strong background in the technical, operational, environmental, financial, policy, and regulatory aspects our service territories.
Project manage the submission of Federal Grants that enable a clean energy future, in particular through the DOE's Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Negotiate and coordinate such grants with DOE. Must have grant writing and filing experience.
Lead, inform, and promote the development of Low Carbon Fuel and Hydrogen capital projects
Lead, inform, and promote the development of Supply Side Assets that have minimal emissions
Perform technical, financial, and environmental studies and calculations that support potential strategies for Electric, Gas, and Steam Operations
Perform technical, financial, and environmental studies and calculations for long term planning and corporate development
Support the Company during emergencies
Required Education/Experience
Bachelor's Degree Engineering, Economics, Finance, Mathematics, or related field and 4 Years Utility/Energy related experience with a minimum of 4 years utility/energy related experience, of which at least 1 year in the area of monitoring, identifying, planning, and executing grant funding opportunities. Knowledge of low carbon fuels, hydrogen development modelling/projects, ESG, and sustainability. Knowledge of current Federal/NYC/NYS energy policy and regulations. High capacity for developing technical, financial, and environmental models and running sophisticated application software. Ability to manage a team of experts and successfully apply for grant funding. Must be able to fastidiously testify in rate cases, present at technical conferences, and provide recommendations to senior management. or

Relevant Work Experience
Utility/Energy: At least 4 years of experience in any area of a utility energy sector company or engineering/environmental company with a bachelor's degree OR at least 3 years of experience in any area of a utility/energy sector company or engineering/environmental company with a Master's Degree. Required
At least 1 year in the area of monitoring, identifying, planning, and executing grant funding opportunities. Required
Knowledge of Low Carbo Fuels, Hydrogen Fuels, and Large-Scale Renewables. Required
Knowledge of current Federal/NYC/NYS energy policy and regulations. Required
High capacity for developing technical, financial, and environmental models and running sophisticated application software. Required
Ability to manage a team of experts and successfully apply for grant funding. Required

Ability to present detailed complex concepts to regulators, elected officials, and Senior Management. Required
