Hitachi Astemo Americas Inc Sr. Software Field Application Engineer in Farmington Hills, Michigan

Description General Responsibilities: As a Software Field Application Engineer, you will be responsible for customer support. The Field Application Engineer will interface with customers on a day-to-day basis to assist customer with Hitachi's product. You will be main interface for customer from the program kick off to launch and post-production support. You will be responsible mainly for software release and troubleshooting customer issues in either bench environment or in customer vehicles.

Job Responsibilities: The main duties and responsibilities include the following: Provide on-site support when requested by customer, and this support can include onsite flashing of software or debugging of issues on customer bench or vehicle and other related customer issues. Meetings with customers to understand their requirements and the scope of their application functionalities and how that integrates and interfaces with our software design.  Also to talk about the issues and requirements of their needs and to transfer all those details in a well-defined manner to all the concerned stake holders. Build and improve relationships with key customer contacts to gain their trust and to improve the customer satisfaction, which can enable us to understand future customer needs. Lead all customer reported issues either on bench or field issues. Ensure resolution to problem by coordinating with design engineering team and customer. Provide weekly status to customer on all open issues. Create 8D/5D and Root cause documentation. Take lead in communication between customer and Hitachi internal team such as design engineering, plant, logistics and QA. Support customer field trips. Support the team with software baseline creation, software release and integration testing. Coordinate meeting between Hitachi and customer team for design reviews or customer issues.

Qualifications: The Ideal candidate will: 5-7+ years' experience in designing and coding in embedded software using C. 2+ years' experience as a field application engineer/resident engineer or some form of customer support role. Microcontrollers. 32-bit automotive multi-core micros. Renesas E2x/RH850 family; Infineon Aurix TCxx family; NXP MPC55xx family. Software Development Tools. Lauterbach T32 debuggers, CAN development tools like CANalyzer, CANape,  Cross compilers, static code analysis, in-circuit debuggers, serial communication tools, HIL systems, measurement & calibration tools. Test Equipment. Oscilloscope, multimeter, logic analyzer, current probes, function generator, etc. Communication Protocols. CAN, CANFD, LIN, SENT, Ethernet. UDS, GMLAN, FNOS, IEEE15765. Application Domains. Powertrain, Automatic Transmission Controls, Gasoline Engine Control, Diesel Engine Control, Basic Software (BSW) Good verbal and written English skills

Additionally, the ability to work independently with minimal direction is required as are strong verbal and written communication skills. Experience with PCs and application software, such as MS Office tools is also required.

Education:  Bachelor or Master's degree in in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering or related field

Experience:  Minimum of 5-7 years applicable experience in automotive domain.

Job level determined by various factors such as organization size, responsibility, career stage, and capabilities.

Working conditions: Physical Demands: Required to sit or stand for long periods of time. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Travel: Domestic and international may be required as needed. The candidate will occasionally need to travel to multiple global locations to support project development.  50% domestic travel, mostly local.  Rarely will require non-local travel to customer field or plants
