Shift: Continental Shift Pattern – 4 on 4 off, 2 days 2 nights.

Salary: £55,000-£57,000 per annum, plus potential bonus scheme and additional benefits.

Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Shift Manager, to join our team based at our Nestlé Beverages site in Dalston, Cumbria.

Nestlé Dalston Factory in Cumbria is the European Centre for cappuccino and creamers producing a range of beverage products. These are produced through a highly automated PLC controlled process plant and automated filling and packing lines. It is continually developing and expanding leading brands such as Nescafé, Aero Hot Chocolate and Coffeemate. The factory is moving forward with continuous improvement principles and actively developing Lean/TPM processes so it’s an exciting time to be involved.

A day in the life of… a Shift Manager

As a Shift Manager you will be responsible for the overall performance of your shift, delivering safe, reliable, and efficient operations. You will have a strong focus on people management and will lead and coach individuals to develop their capabilities and ways of working. You will also be heavily involved in implementing a continuous improvement culture within your team and driving TPM tools and standards across the department.

You will work in partnership with all operational and support functions, including the other shift managers. Ensuring all KPI’s are met working closely with Process Specialists and LPM’s in terms of strategy execution.

The role will report to the Area Manager and outside of office hours has full responsibility for the department and site. This is an exciting opportunity to lead through change and progress your career.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the Safety Culture and conditions for a Safe Working Environment.

  • Drive the QA culture and conditions for a Food Safe Environment in line with QA strategy.

  • Drive Manufacturing Excellence as a key member of the LLT, coaching their team and driving the NCE journey.

  • Ensure that finished products are consistently manufactured according to standards of quality and relevant manufacturing instructions (compliance).

  • Manage production effectively through NCE reviews (SHO, SOR, DOR, WOR) and use standards (SDCA) to ensure sustainable results.

  • Ensure conversion costs for the lines are continuously improving through managing waste, rework, overfilling and variance. Support factory-based projects as required.

  • Manage your team on shift, responsible for all people management activities including planning, holiday allocation, absence, appraisals, and HR related matters.

  • Ensure constant dialogue with relevant stakeholders. Lead communication within your shift, delivering briefs including OPL’s, QA and Safety notices.

• People Management and being able to demonstrate experience of leading and engaging others.

• Experience of working in fast paced manufacturing operations (FMCG) environment.

• You will be a credible, approachable, and strong character – able to gain the buy in of key stakeholders on site and flex your style depending on the audience.

• Experience of implementing and sustaining NCE/TPM methodology with strong problem-solving skills.

• Experience of leading and managing change.
