POSITION SUMMARY:

Marathon Petroleum Company LP, is accepting applications for an hourly Operator Technician position at the Canton Refinery. This position offers immediate responsibility and a generous benefit package. This position is unionized and on a rotating shift schedule with overtime as required by business needs. Operators will be placed in the Operations Department or Products Distribution Department. Upon employment, candidates are required to join the United Steel, Paper and Forestry, Rubber, Manufacturing, Energy, Allied Industrial and Service Workers International Union (USW). The successful applicant will be part of a six-month performance feedback period and adhere to a strict Drug and Alcohol policy.  Successful applicants will also be required to pass a pre-employment written test, physical abilities test, drug and alcohol screen and physical. The refinery operators 24 hours a day, 7 days per week.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Live and demonstrate MPC’s core values

  • Adhere to all refinery Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements

  • Learn refining process operations and qualify on process jobs

  • Make periodic rounds per shift - Duties include, but are not limited to, monitoring the units, equipment isolation, collecting stream samples and writing work permits

  • Understand refining process operations, tank farm product movements, and qualify on tank farm jobs - Duties include, but are not limited to, monitoring the tank levels and transfers, tank gauging, equipment isolation, collecting tank samples, and writing work permits

  • Detect and respond to process upsets and emergency situations

  • Duties include, but not limited to, firefighting, equipment isolation and evacuation

  • Maintain a clean work area

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • A High School Diploma or GED is required.

  • A valid driver’s license is required.

  • Previous operator or petrochemical plant experience is a plus

  • Some relevant education, training and/or work experience is preferred, such as: 2 years vocational technical training curriculum in petrochemical/manufacturing or related field OR 2 years equivalent work experience in a process operational/maintenance craft area OR 5 years stable work experience in a light industrial or commercial industry

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Successful candidates must possess, at a minimum, the following criteria:

  • At least 18 years of age

  • Willingness to perform fire and emergency response activities

  • Willingness to work a rotating shift schedule and overtime as required by business needs

  • Be fit to perform the essential functions of the job. This includes, but is not limited to, the a bility to lift, push, and/or pull up to 50 lbs; climb ladders; enter confined spaces; and wear all required PPE.

  • Adhere to a strict Drug and Alcohol policy

  • Basic math, reading, writing, and verbal skills along with basic computer skills
